This is how I've handled my clothes for the past year as of writing this. All of the clothes in here are clean.
I started arranging my clothes this way when I realized I was too exhausted by CFS to sort, fold, any put away my clothes but bending over for a while to search through the whole damn basket was triggering POTS symptoms. Nothing like almost passing out cause you really wanted to wear the blue shirt today. So if I wasn't going to fold this stuff, I could make things a little easier by taking 5 minutes to sort the things I needed most.
It's worth noting that this works best with a simple uniform or a capsule wardrobe. I usually get two pairs of pants and two layers at a time (about every other year) with at least 8 shirts I genuinely like (7 days in a week + 1 to wear while doing laundry). I have some sweatpants and shirts I only wear to fancier events in the bottom of this hamper. I just throw it in the dryer for a bit before putting it on - no wrinkles and no ironing. The space limitations of the hamper itself can help one par down to an essential core of clothes that get used regularly and others are stored in more "normal" ways if you don't want to pair down to a true capsule wardrobe.
Because I'm on the short side, I don't have to bend too much to grab stuff off the top. If you're taller, you could put it on a riser of some sort. At one point, I kept the whole system by my bed so I could just roll over on my side, pick out what I needed, and get dressed laying down.
For dirty laundry, I use a bag hamper that I either hang up on the back of my bathroom door or in my closet so I don't have to bend over to pick it up.
So yeah, this is just me sharing my notes. I hope it sparks some ideas for you!
